About CCR

Colonial Connecticut Records (CCR) is a digital collection that includes volumes 1 through 15 of the Public Records, which were digitized from microfilmed copies of the original publications owned by the Libraries. Currently, it is possible to access scanned images of all fifteen volumes by browsing an A-Z subject index, searching by date, or searching by volume and page number. Although full-text and keyword access to the text is not yet available, future phases of the project will most certainly incorporate this level of advanced access. CCR Accessibilty

It is the mission of the University of Connecticut Libraries to provide every patron access to all library facilities and collections to the best of our abilities. Furthermore, in accordance with the State of Connecticut website accessibility policies, CCR is being developed with universal access in mind. Currently, images in the digital collection can not be accessed online by users with visual impairment. We are working to remedy this situation and we intend to offer full-text access to this digital collection in the near future. For users who are unable to utilize CCR in its current form, please contact the CCR Project Manager, David Avery, to discuss alternate methods of access using the University of Connecticut Libraries' Assistive Technology Work Stations.

Search Options

Browse the A-Z Subject Index

Select the volume you wish to browse. You may only select one volume at a time.
After selecting a volume, you will be directed to the index for that volume, complete with an A-Z list of subjects.
Find and select the subject you want to read about.
Choose a page number (if applicable) or select a narrower topic in the subject list, and then choose a page number.
Once you select a page number from the subject index, an image of the corresponding page from the Public Records will appear on your screen.
To navigate forward or backward through pages in the volume, select the "Previous" page or "Next" page links, which appear above every image in CCR.

Search by Date

Enter a date in the text box provided, following the format examples on the search screen. Hit "Enter" or select the "Search for Date" button. Please note that "date" refers to the actual calendar dates between April 1636 and October 1776, which appear throughout the text in volumes 1-15 of the Public Records.
CCR's search software will then compare your requested date to those found in the text and provide you with 10 dates that most closely match the one you requested.
Select one date from the list of 10 possible dates and an image of the corresponding page will appear on your screen.
To navigate forward or backward through pages in the volume, select the "Previous" page or "Next" page links, which appear above every image in CCR.

Search by Volume

This is the most efficient search method for CCR.
If you know, from a bibliographic reference or footnote, the volume and page number that contains the information you need, simply select a volume number from the pull-down menu and type the page number in the text box provided.
Hit "Enter" or select the "Search for Page" button and an image of the corresponding page from the Public Records will appear on your screen.
To navigate forward or backward through pages in the volume, select the "Previous" page or "Next" page links, which appear above every image in CCR.

Browse Colonial Pathways

Select the type of document you wish to view. (Charters, documents, inventories, laws, letters, proceedings of courts or all of the types.)
After selecting the type of document, you may next enter in criteria by which to search; or you may leave it blank. (e.g. Hartford, Gov. Andros, Pequot, Dutch …)
- By leaving the criteria blank you will receive all of the documents under the type of document selected.
Once you have entered in your search, you will be greeted with a results page that will have title, description, and view page link.
After viewing the title and the description, click on the view page link and go directly to the page.
